Should You Choose Frontend or Backend Development? Both frontend and backend roles are rewarding, with each offering its own set of pros and cons. As you begin your learning journey, focus on understanding the basics, then choose the path that resonates with you. If you’re passionate about both, consider becoming a full stack developer, mastering both areas.

Web development is typically divided into two main areas: frontend and backend. The frontend encompasses everything you see and interact with on a website, while the backend handles the behind-the-scenes processes such as logging in, checking user sessions, or sending verification messages.

In this guide, we’ll mainly focus on the frontend.

JavaScript.info (Free):

A comprehensive resource for mastering JavaScript, and its really amazing.

How to Use These Resources

Start with a visual course to get familiar with the basics. I recommend beginning with Scrimba’s HTML & CSS course or FreeCodeCamp’s tutorials. Avoid project-based tutorials at this stage—focus on learning the building blocks of HTML and CSS.

Once you’ve completed a visual course, try replicating simple designs to reinforce what you’ve learned. Don’t aim for complex designs right away—CodePen is a great platform to find simple projects you can practice on. After a few days of practice, you should begin to recognize how to use tools like Flexbox or visualize how different components of a design fit together.

Next, move on to MDN Web Docs to fill in any gaps in your knowledge. After each section, create 2-3 designs, even if they are simple, to solidify your understanding.

A Step-by-Step Progression:

Complete a visual tutorial (e.g., Scrimba or FreeCodeCamp ). Replicate simple designs using your newly gained skills. Advance your learning by diving into MDN Docs to refine your understanding. Create advanced designs, incorporating more complex layouts and features. The Final Step: The Odin Project Once you’ve covered the basics, moved on to advanced tutorials, and practiced design, the final piece of the puzzle is The Odin Project. This resource is widely praised for its comprehensive curriculum and real-world projects that push you to reach your full potential.

By following this structured approach, you’ll be well on your way to mastering web development!
